How to set up a computer for TeleScript Software

To set up a new Windows computer for Telescript software, there are a few things you need to do to make sure it will run a smooth scroll.

1) Run Windows Update multiple times to make sure ALL Windows updates are complete. Often times newer updates can only be installed after older updates have been installed so be sure to run this multiple times. Then run the manufacturer's update application (for instance, Dell uses Dell SupportAssist) or go the the manufacturer's website to get any additional updates not acquired through Windows.

2) Install your version of Telescript software, including the Safenet Sentinel drivers (that installer should have been dropped on your desktop once the Telescript installer completed). You will need these drivers in order for your computer to recognize the dongle (if you've purchased one) to unlock the software. Details on this procedure are HERE.

3) Plug in your controller. Your computer will likely give you an audible alert letting you know the controller was recognized by your Device Manager. Now, in the search bar, type Device Manager and open the application. Scroll down to find the PORTS (COM & LPT) section and click the arrow to open the dropdown. You will see this:

You will see USB SERIAL DEVICE here. This is your UHC 10-Button Controller. Windows has assigned a standard driver to the device, but if you want to use the Telescript driver for this controller, right-click the USB SERIAL DEVICE and select UPDATE DRIVER.

Use the Browse My Computer for Drivers option and navigate to the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Telescript\TeleScript**\USBDriver folder and click OK.

Now your device manager PORTS section should now show:

Your assigned COM port number will vary.

4) Now navigate further down the list of devices in Device Manager and click the dropdown for UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS.

Right-click each device listed (your devices listed will vary)and select PROPERTIES. If the device has a POWER MANAGEMENT tab, click it and UNcheck the box in front of ALLOW THE COMPUTER TO TURN OFF THIS DEVICE TO SAVE POWER. This will keep windows from turning off power to your 10-burron controller.

5) Now open your version of Telescript software and test. Does the scroll look good? Are you able to open RTF documents without issue?

If your scroll is a little jumpy, refer to this Knowledgebase article. If you are in Windows 11, refer to this article.

If you cannot open basic RTF files, install Microsoft Word if possible, as this installation will install some file format converters that will help with RTF conversion. If you still have issues, please open a Helpdesk ticket for further assistance.

6) If your FN keys are hijacked (ie., they perform other functions (like media functions)), you will need to either disable the FN hotkeys in your BIOS, or see if the FN Lock is turned on in the graphics settings of your video card. Each manufacturer has different BIOS setups, so this setting will be located in different places inside the BIOS. Generally, to get to your BIOS settings you will need to open your ADVANCED STARTUP settings in Windows and run the Advanced Startup option. There you will need to find the option to open your BIOS dashboard.
